President Kagame speaks out on Africa’s partnership with China
2022/12/21

Local and regional media houses in Rwanda have recently reported the views of H.E. President Paul Kagame on Africa’s partnership with China, during his interview with U.S. news website Semafor on Dec.14th.

Kigali Today quoted the President saying “I don’t think we need to be bullied into making choices, choosing between US or China. It is really none of our business. I think we need to have both and others as partners, as far as they also respect us and understand that we have something to contribute.”

In an article titled “Kagame condemns flawed criticisms on China’s investment in Africa”, IGIHE reported that President Paul Kagame said that no one should complain about China’s increasing investment in Africa yet those raising critics failed to tap into the opportunity.

The EastAfrican commented, President Paul Kagame was a vocal defender of Africa’s quest to expand its economic partnership with China, saying the continent has a right to seek partners and China is filling a gap for investment. President Kagame said that China identified Africa as an investment destination to fill existing gaps. He highlighted that those blaming China should first explain why they chose to fold arms instead of bringing their investments.

The view of H.E. President Paul Kagame also received attention from international communities.
