Rwanda Regional Finals of "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition Concludes

On June 11th, Rwanda regional finals of 21st "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students and the 15th "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students successfully concluded online. Ms. Xing Yuchun, Political Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda, Dr. Florien Nsanganwimana, Acting Principal of College of Education, University of Rwanda, Chinese and Rwandan Directors of Confucius Institute at University of Rwanda, judges of the competition, teachers and students, and representatives of Chinese communities in Rwanda attended the function.

On behalf of the Embassy, Ms. Xing Yuchun congratulated the participants on their good performances, and expressed the appreciation to all the teachers for their continued commitment of promoting the Chinese education in Rwanda. The Counselor said, the pandemic has held up the people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, but the students have been actively pursuing their learning with online and offline classes, and Rwandese teachers have become the backbone of local Chinese education. The Chinese language is a golden key to understanding China, also a vital link between the people in the two countries. She hopes every participants of the Chinese Bridge could be a researcher of Chinese language, an ambassador of friendship between China and Rwanda, and a seeker for a better shared future for the world.

Dr. Florien expressed thanks to China for its support to Chinese education in Rwanda. He said, the award winners have demonstrated and have been characterized by an adequate behavior and consistency in their effort. They will reap the fruit of their effort. The Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition should be a bridge to other opportunities.

This year's competition consists of keynote speech, talent show and written contest. A total of 5 college students and 4 secondary school students entered the regional finals. Irakoze Kimonyo Sabine from University of Rwanda, and Gumiriza Keeny from IPRC TVET Kigali won the competition for college and secondary school students respectively.
