2020/03/11

On 10 March 2020, Mr. Wang Jiaxin, the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Rwanda, gave interview to KT Press of Rwanda again, where he briefed the audiences on the latest development of China's fight against the COVID-19 epidemic and the cooperation between China and the international community.

Counselor Wang Jiaxin said thanks to China's all-out efforts, significant progress has been made recently. A growing positive momentum in epidemic control has been across the country. On 10 March, there were only 17 newly confirmed cases in Wuhan, the epicenter, and other regions inside Hubei province have recorded zero new infections for 5 consecutive days. In the rest of mainland China, outside Hubei, the daily number of newly confirmed cases has remained in single digits in the past week. China will continue to implement the robust response measures unswervingly, and consolidate the positive results which have been achieved. The world has every reason to believe China has the confidence, capability and resources to prevail the epidemic at an early date.

During the interview, the journalist raised a question to Counselor Wang Jiaxin on how the world should learn from China's successful experience in the anti-virus fight. Counselor Wang Jiaxin answered that, the main reasons for China to win the epidemic are the institutional advantage of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the forceful intervention of the Chinese Government, the self-discipline and sacrifice of the Chinese people, the scientific and effective strategy on epidemic control, the openness and transparency in release of information, and the jointly overcoming the difficulties through international cooperation. China has always followed its version of building a community of shared future for mankind, and will continue to strengthen international cooperation and fight the epidemic together with the international community in an open, transparent and responsible manner. While keeping combating the epidemic domestically, China is ready to provide assistance to other countries affected by COVID-19 with its ability.

In view of the impact of COVID-19 on China's economy, Counselor Wang Jiaxin stressed that, although the epidemic poses unprecedented challenges to China's economy and the global economy, the strong resilience and potential shown by China's economy is also unprecedented. The fundamentals sustaining China's long-term economic growth have not changed. The Chinese Government is fighting the epidemic with one hand and recovering the economic development with another hand. Substantial support measures have been taken by the central government and the local authorities. Right now, the machinery of Chinese economy is orderly and rapidly returning to work and production. With further containment of the virus and the improvement of the situation, China's economy will be back to the normal track and remain the most important engine of the world economic development.
