2020/04/26

On April 26, the handover ceremony of the medical supplies donated by the Chinese Government to Rwanda is held at MPPC warehouse of Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) in Kigali. Chinese Ambassador to Rwanda, H.E. Rao Hongwei, Minister of Health of Rwanda, Dr Daniel Ngamije, and officials from RBC attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Rao commended at the ceremony that, since the breakout of Covid-19 in Rwanda, under the leadership of President Kagame, the Rwandan government and people have been taking comprehensive, thorough and rigorous prevention and control measures, altering the dangerous course of the virus' quick spread and prevented potential infections nationwide. "You throw a peach to me, and I give you a white jade for friendship." As this Chinese traditional virtue saying, China will never forget the sincere assistance and support from Rwanda during our most difficult period to defeat the virus. In recent days, Chinese enterprises and overseas Chinese in Rwanda all voluntarily donated forms of medical supplies and money to Rwanda. Days ago experts from China and Rwanda held multiple video conference and shared experiences and practices in diagnosis and treatments. Today, the Chinese Government officially handovers the first batch of emergency medical supplies to Rwanda, and the second batch is expected to arrive soon, which will definitely contribute to the fight against the pandemic in Rwanda. It is not only showing China's determination and solidarity with Rwanda at this special moment, but also standing as the practice of China upholding the vision of a community of a shared future for mankind.

Ambassador Rao said, as the COVID-19 spreads and worsens all over the world, the urgent task for the international community to defeat the pandemic is to respond with aggressive and concerted efforts. It is no longer the battle of one country or one city. It is now a battle for all with global public health security, mankind's health and well-being and world development and prosperity at stake. China will continue to cooperate with the international community, including African countries like Rwanda and contribute the Chinese wisdom and strength to better addressing global challenges and promoting the health and well-being of all mankind.

Dr. Ngamije, on behalf of the Rwandan Government, extended the sincere appreciation and thanks to China for this timely donation. He said, close global cooperation is the key of combating COVID-19. The Rwandan Government is looking forward to collaborating more with China in the fight againstCOVID-19, and learning more from China's amassed invaluable experience. It is believed that with the concerted help from China and international community, Rwanda will overcome the pandemic soon.
