On May 20th, 2020, the Embassy of China donates an assortment of food supplies including maize flour, beans, cooking oil and rice to the members of Rwanda Kungfu Wushu Federation (RKWF), to help them on fighting against Covid-19. The total amount of this donation is valued at 24 million RWF, with its weight at 28.8 (metric) tons. This donation will be distributed to 400 families of Kungfu players across Rwanda.

In his remarks, Amb Rao Hongwei says that Kungfu is an important cultural bridge linking China and Rwanda. During the lockdown, many people keep on practicing Kungfu at home in order to stay healthy.

When China was facing the most difficult days, Rwanda stood together with China and voiced firm solidarity. Chinese philosophy strengthens that kindness from friends should be repaid. Chinese people are willing to collaborate with the Rwandan people to navigate the tough times. During this grave period, Chinese Embassy in Kigali supports, as always, the Government and people of Rwanda in their fight against the coronavirus. With China and Rwanda hands in hands, the epidemic will be triumphed over and the hearts of the our two peoples be connected closer to each other than ever.

The donation ceremony is attended by Mr Didier Shema-Maboko, Permanent Secretary of the Rwandan Ministry of Sports, and Mr Richard Makuza, Vice President of Rwanda Kungfu/Wushu Federation.

On behalf of the Government of Rwanda, Mr Shema-Maboko expresses his appreciation to Chinese Embassy on its contribution to Rwandan society and sportsmen for fighting against the pandemic. With the essential food supplies, he says, it will not take long time to see practitioners of Kungfu back to tournaments. Rwandans practicing Kungfu are obviously combining the cultures of the two countries.

The ceremony of donation is covered by Rwandan media including RTV, the New Times, KT Press and Igih
