On September 12, Ambassador Gao Wenqi was invited to join the Umuganda co-organized by Rwanda-China Alumni Organization (RCAO) and the authorities of Kicukiro District of Kigali. The activities included repairing houses, clearing ditches, and giving cows to the local community. The event brought together over 300 participants, including local government representatives, villagers, Chinese compatriots in Kigali, and representatives from the China Medical Team to Rwanda, Chinese enterprises, the Confucius Institute, and overseas Chinese.

In his remarks, Ambassador Gao noted that Umuganda and Girinka are both home-grown solutions rooted in Rwanda’s traditional culture and tailored to Rwanda’s national context. They prove that solidarity and mutual assistance are key to shared prosperity. On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of Rwanda-China Diplomatic Relations and the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, it bears special importance for both peoples to work together and pursue common development. China stands ready to work with the Rwandan side to carry forward the consensus reached by the two Heads of State, and advance the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Mr. Mutsinzi, Mayor of Kikukiro District said, the Umuganda and sharing of cows genuinely exemplify the friendship between Rwandan and Chinese people. They thanked the Chinese side for long-term support to economic and social transformation of Rwanda, and reaffirmed the readiness to make joint efforts in promoting people-to-people exchanges and bringing about greater benefits to the two peoples.
